Links to Additional Fire Tower Resources
This page contains links to other sites containing information on Fire Lookouts and Towers. Some contain additional information about Michigan’s Fire Towers:

Founded in 1990, the Forest Fire Lookout Association is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of wildland fire lookouts and their legacy.
Please consider joining this worthwhile organization dedicated to preserving forest fire towers and lookouts!
The U.S. Forest Service was established in 1905, the Forest Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is the nation’s foremost federal forestry organization. The agency is a world leader in forest research, providing leadership in the sustainable management, conservation, use, and stewardship of natural and cultural resources on national forests and grasslands in the United States.
This site has increased its inventory of historic information including photographs, of fire towers and lookouts in the US. This includes U.S. Forest Service towers located in Michigan.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state’s natural and cultural resources for current and future generations.
This site has limited historical information on Michigan’s fire towers. Much of Michigan’s Conservation and Department of Natural Resources archives is located in the State Archive in Lansing. Unfortunately, a devastating fire in 1951 destroyed some of Michigan’s archived material including conservation records but there is still a significant amount of information on the States towers in the Lansing Archive.
Hopefully one day the DNR website will offer more historical information, especially on the fire towers.
